Photographs are one of the essential elements in the Day of the Dead Altar. They are a window that allows us to remember, honour and maintain the memory of those loved ones who have gone before us. The photos are the loom where the personal story intertwines with the tradition, creating a bridge between the living and the dead.

In this Stitching in Photography Workshop we'll explore the importance of images within the altar and we'll talk about this beautiful tradition. We'll learn the technique of stitching on photography as a creative and symbolic artistic form, allowing us to remember and honour those in the images. This once off workshop is part of our Day of the Dead at Picado Series, a micro festival celebrating this colourful Mexican holiday.

Facilitated by the gorgeous Eli Duarte, from Caminando Se Resuelve, a project where migrants meet and reconnect with their identity through reflective arts and crafts, the workshop will allow participants to connect creatively in a relaxed and friendly environment. Participants will learn the stitch on a photograph technique and the space it has in tradition. We'll have some snacks and a complimentary soft drink. - This is a 2 hour workshop.

*THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN

We keep our classes small and reasonably priced, and while we know life happens, we do have a cancellation policy. We will always try to help wherever possible, but please take a moment to familiarise yourself with our cancellation terms below.

You'll get a full refund if you cancel at least three weeks before the class. If you cancel between two and three weeks before the class, you'll be entitled to a 50% refund of the class fee. If you cancel within one week of the class, we have sadly already planned and bought all the ingredients with your attendance in mind, so no refund will be provided.

However, if you cancel late, we’ll do our best to resell your seat. If we manage to fill it, we’ll happily refund your ticket. You’re also welcome to transfer your seat to someone else—just let us know in advance so we can accommodate any dietary restrictions!

Please note that not showing up to a class, for any reason, does not entitle you to a refund or a deferral to another class. We are unable to offer alternative dates for missed classes.

If your class was booked as a gift, the same terms and conditions apply.

If you need to defer your booking to a later date, it must be done within 12 months of your original class date. If the new class has a higher price, you’ll just need to cover the difference.

Picado Mexican Kitchen handles wheat/gluten, sesame seeds, and nuts on a regular basis, so bear that in mind when booking.
