DAY OF THE DEAD AT PICADO

A micro festival of culinary and creative experiences in the heart of Dublin, celebrating Mexico's Day of the Dead.

Main Activities

The Series brings together a wide range of experiences, from gastronomy to arts and crafts: stitching on photography, piñata making, tasting Oaxacan tamales, decorating sugar skulls, crafting marigold flowers or sitting down to a traditional Mexican Meal, there is something for everyone at Picado this October and November.

    Day of the Dead Experiences

DAY OF THE DEAD AT PICADO is a cultural series of culinary experiences and creative workshops in Dublin, celebrating Mexico's Day of the Dead

Created by a collective of Mexican migrant women in Dublin, blending food, tradition and memory into a cultural journey.

Our Mission

To celebrate memory and life through the universal languages of food and creativity. Our mission is to create and experience where people can come together, share, learn and belong. Each workshop was designed to become a bridge connecting this Mexican tradition, with not just the Irish people, but with the Mexican and international diaspora as well, through authentic expressions of Mexican Culture

WHY DAY OF THE DEAD IN DUBLIN?

Day of the dead is one of Mexico's most meaningful celebrations, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is a vibrant yet reflective way of honouring memory and celebrating life. Bringing it to Dublin offers a unique opportunity to share its colours, flavours and rituals with new audiences, allowing a connection between Mexican identity and Irish curiosity for culture and craft.

The Alter of Day of the Dead

At the heart of Day of the Dead celebrations is the alter – a sacred space where memory, love, and live intertwine. Adorned with marigolds, candles, food and cherished mementos, it invites us to honour those who have passed while remembering the beauty of their lives. Every workshop in the series would have contributed to elements of the altar, bringing the series full circle.

Picado will host an open day for people to visit our altar. Traditional Day of the Dead bread and Mexican hot chocolate will be on offer to return for a small donation to the Irish Cancer Society, a cause very closed to our founders.
