
Calaveritas de Azucar or little sugar skulls are a traditional Mexican candy made for Day of the Dead. Sugar is mold into a playful and colourful skull shape that once dried is decorated with royal icing, foil, sequins, feathers and loads other things, we often write the name of the departed on them and we place them as ofrendas or offerings to honour those who have departed and celebrate their lives.
Join us for this Sugar Skull Making & Decorating Workshop and learn to make these playful sugar skulls. This once off workshop is part of our Day of the Dead at Picado Series, a micro festival celebrating this colourful Mexican holiday.
In this adult-focused, hands on class, we'll show you the techniques and secrets to get your sugar skulls right; you'll learn to make the sugar skull paste, mold it and cure it till it's hard. Then you'll get your hands dirty decorating them to your heart's content, all while we share the stories behind this colourful Mexican tradition in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. You'll be able to bring your calaverita home.
We'll have some snacks and a complimentary soft drink. - This is a 2 hour workshop.
