Calaveritas de Azucar or little sugar skulls are a traditional Mexican candy made for Day of the Dead. Sugar is mold into a playful and colourful skull shape that once dried is decorated with royal icing, foil, sequins, feathers and loads other things, we often write the name of the departed on them and we place them as ofrendas or offerings to honour those who have departed and celebrate their lives.

Join us for this Sugar Skull Making & Decorating Workshop and learn to make these playful sugar skulls. This once off workshop is part of our Day of the Dead at Picado Series, a micro festival celebrating this colourful Mexican holiday.

In this adult-focused, hands on class, we'll show you the techniques and secrets to get your sugar skulls right; you'll learn to make the sugar skull paste, mold it and cure it till it's hard. Then you'll get your hands dirty decorating them to your heart's content, all while we share the stories behind this colourful Mexican tradition in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. You'll be able to bring your calaverita home.

We'll have some snacks and a complimentary soft drink. - This is a 2 hour workshop.

*THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN

We keep our classes small and reasonably priced, and while we know life happens, we do have a cancellation policy. We will always try to help wherever possible, but please take a moment to familiarise yourself with our cancellation terms below.

You'll get a full refund if you cancel at least three weeks before the class. If you cancel between two and three weeks before the class, you'll be entitled to a 50% refund of the class fee. If you cancel within one week of the class, we have sadly already planned and bought all the ingredients with your attendance in mind, so no refund will be provided.

However, if you cancel late, we’ll do our best to resell your seat. If we manage to fill it, we’ll happily refund your ticket. You’re also welcome to transfer your seat to someone else—just let us know in advance so we can accommodate any dietary restrictions!

Please note that not showing up to a class, for any reason, does not entitle you to a refund or a deferral to another class. We are unable to offer alternative dates for missed classes.

If your class was booked as a gift, the same terms and conditions apply.

If you need to defer your booking to a later date, it must be done within 12 months of your original class date. If the new class has a higher price, you’ll just need to cover the difference.

Picado Mexican Kitchen handles wheat/gluten, sesame seeds, and nuts on a regular basis, so bear that in mind when booking.
