Achiote Paste, La Extra
Achiote Paste is made with a blend of annatto seeds, spices, herbs and vinegar. It is traditionally used in Mexican cuisine, specially in the Oaxaca and Yucatan regions to marinate meats, poultry, fish and game. On its own, this bright ruby,. soft paste is quite bitter and strong, but if you mix it with orange juice and cider vinegar, it makes an amazing marinade of subtle tangy flavours.
We love it as the main ingredient for the super delicious Cochinita Pibil, which is one of the most popular recipes in the blog. Incredibly easy to use, achiote paste is bound to turn your Mexican cooking up a notch.
