Rosca de Reyes (Kings' Wreath) is a very traditional sweet, ring-shaped bread eaten in and around January 6 in Mexico. The dough is flavoured with orange zest, it is enriched with eggs and plenty of butter, the bread is decorated with a vanilla and/or chocolate flavoured crust, almonds, crystallised fruits and fruit pastes. It is super delicious! Traditionally the bread will have, depending on its size, a number of plastic dolls hidden in it and the person or persons who find the dolls in their slice are suppose to throw a party and feed tamales to the guests on February the 2nd. - Our Roscas are available on pre-order only. They take three days to make, so give us three days notice. In the notes of your order, let us know which day you want to collect them and we'll bake it fresh for you.
The bread symbolises the crown worn by the three wise men, the decorations represents the jewels and gifts brought by the three wise men to the menjer and the hidden doll symbolises how baby jesus was hidden from Herod. We recommend to have your slice with a cup of coffee or even better a mug of hot Mexican chocolate!
We will have them available from January 6th till January 17th. Order yours and let us know which day you're picking it up so we can bake it fresh. Because we don't add anything to preserve them, the bread only lasts a couple of days, so they are best enjoyd on the day of purchase or the day after.
